The Vestry

Here's the bit for those who like to know how the church is organised! St Andrew's, St Andrew's is a Charge within the Diocese of St Andrew's, Dunkeld and Dunblane, of the Episcopal Church in Scotland. The clergy, congregation and all officials are subject to the Canons (rules) of that Church and conform to the regulations of the General Synod.

In practical terms, we are governed by a Constitution which specifies that the temporal affairs of the church and rectory will be under the management of a Vestry consisting of:

The last three are ex-officio members and do not retire by rotation. The Lay representative is elected annually at the AGM and the Secretary and Treasurer are appointed annually by the Vestry.

The Vestry have charge of the fabric and property of the church, rectory and other buildings, as well as all gifts and bequests. They are responsible for keeping all the buildings in good repair and properly insured. They must also help the Rector in the safe custody of the church silver, registers etc. They are particularly responsible for making sure the rectory is wind and watertight and completely fit for the use of the rector and his family.

In short, the Vestry are required to support the Rector in every way in their power, in all matters affecting the spiritual and practical welfare of the congregation. They meet regularly at least once a month.

Martin Passmore (Vestry Clerk)
