Unseen, but important
The 'sacristy' is the little room at the front of the church to the right of the choir.
It's a kind of preparation room for our services. After each 10am Sunday service,
people on the 'sacristy rota' take it in turns to tidy up after the communion service. We clear the altar and cover it up with the dust cover, replacing the white altar
cloth if necessary. All the silverware used in the service is scalded with boiling
water, sometimes cleaned with polish and prepared for the next service, with fresh
linen and communion wafers.
We clean and refill the wine and water cruets and count out the communion wafers
into bags of 150, ready for use.
Five of us currently help in this team, and we'd welcome new members, especially
those who might help during holidays times.
